Adoption Lifebooks
At Tapestry Books we offer adoptive parents a selection of specifically adoption oriented lifebooks, baby books, journals, and memory keepsake albums. The selection of lifebooks addresses different adoption situations, and will provide a place for your child's special story and your own as you parent your child.

When your child learns about his or her early history it will reduce the uncertainty surrounding their adoption, and contribute to the development of self-esteem. It is not unusual for an adopted child, as any child, to create a fantasy as their explanation for the missing pieces of their early lives. Lifebooks can be an attempt to assist them on their individual paths to a sense of identity and confidence related to understanding their past.
In addition to being a source of information, adoption lifebooks are an effective tool for discussion. During the process of creating lifebooks, parents think through and decide how to share certain information with their children. Some parents find it healing to tune into their own feelings about their child’s early life experience while composing their lifebook. Later, when sharing the story of their children’s early lives, they can be more emotionally present and available rather than caught in unresolved feelings about the material.
An adoption lifebook is created for, about, and from the perspective of the child. It answers such questions as “What do you know about my infancy?”, "Where was I born?", and “How and why did I come to be adopted?”
We have a strong preference for the digital method or even that of traditional scrapbooking. When parents take the time to think more about the importance of specific issues about their child's adoption they can express it in a more creative way. The process of editing the blanks/pages is replaced with deciding what content to include and how to present it. Even though it may appear to be a daunting task, there is help available. We think with some guidance from someone experienced at asking the right questions, or a book about how children think about adoption, the process of creating a lifebook, or scrapbook, does what it was meant to do. Serve as a facilitator for the parent to talk to the child, and have the child talk to them about the adoption.
